june 24 Gary Matthews blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers outscored the Atlanta Braves 10 to 7. Matthews had a big evening at the plate. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 2nd inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 15th of the season) in the 4th inning. Atlanta was out-hit by Los Angeles, 16 hits to 9. The winning pitcher was Burt Hooton(8-4) who allowed 5 runs in 7 innings. Hooton got help from Tom Burgmeier who earned his 12th save. Mike Marshall(3-4) ended up with the loss in relief. The Los Angeles ballclub's record now stands at 36-42. With this loss, Atlanta has a 5-5 record of late, 41-37 overall. After an out was recorded, Don Kessinger tripled. Dale Murphy stepped up next and he laced a single giving Atlanta the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.
