Dave Goltz(16-4) pitched a fine game. He went 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 walks. Cincinnati had 9 hits for the night. Rawly Eastwick recorded his 13th save. The losing pitcher was Jim Barr(9-10).
'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Goltz, 'I got burned on a couple of pitches. Santo Alcala pitched a complete game shutout at Riverfront Stadium as the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 2 to 0.
Alcala(3-0) gave Cincinnati a solid outing. He gave up just 5 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 1.82 to 1.40. Neither team managed to score after the 2nd inning.
John Montefusco(8-12) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 9 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Cesar Geronimo had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 9 to 5 at Riverfront Stadium.
Geronimo had a big day at the plate. He doubled clearing the bases in the 2nd inning, ripped a base-knock in the 4th inning, lined a base-hit in the 6th inning and smacked a single knocking in a run in the 8th inning. Despite losing, San Francisco out-hit Cincinnati 13 to 9.
Gary Nolan(13-7) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Tom Griffin(2-9) ended up with the loss. He couldn't find the strike zone and allowed 8 walks in 4 innings.
