He laced a one-base hit in the 1st inning, laced a single in the 4th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 1st of the season) in the 8th inning. Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Don Sutton(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Sutton got help from Mike Garman who was credited with his 1st save. Dave Goltz(0-1) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around by Los Angeles, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
