Tom Seaver held Los Angeles to 3 hits at Riverfront Stadium where the
Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8 to 1.

Los Angeles was unable to claim the lead after Cincinnati went ahead in the
5th inning scoring 2 runs using 3 hits.  Cesar Geronimo led off and started
the attack as he stroked a base-hit.  Dave Concepcion stepped up to the plate
and he banged out a single.  Seaver then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Pete
Rose came up and he hit a single scoring two baserunners.  Cincinnati banged
out 10 on the night.

Seaver(1-0) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Burt Hooton(0-1)
was given the loss.  He gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings.

46,857 fans were treated to a fine game at Riverfront Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Los Angeles Dodgers won by the
slimmest of margins, 10 to 9.

Steve Garvey had a good evening at the plate. He laced a one-base hit in the
1st inning, laced a single in the 4th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly'
(his 1st of the season) in the 8th inning.  Cincinnati threatened in the 9th
but their rally came up short.

Don Sutton(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Sutton got help from Mike Garman who was credited with his 1st save.
Dave Goltz(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He was knocked around by Los Angeles,
allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
