Game 1 Mike Schmidt had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Montreal Expos defeated the San Francisco Giants by the score of 10 to 3 at Candlestick Park .
In the 2nd inning Montreal went on top for good with 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Andre Dawson opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Ivan Dejesus stepped up to the plate and he stroked a one-base hit. Larry Christenson then laced a base-hit. Duane Kuiper was up next and he laced a single bringing in a run. Kuiper took second on the throw. Glenn Adams stepped into the box and slapped a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. The early run support proved sufficient for Christenson (4-4) and Montreal . That was all the run support Christenson required. Offensively, Montreal was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.
The loss was charged to John Montefusco (3-3). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. Game 2 One run was the difference at Candlestick Park as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Montreal Expos 2 to 1.
San Francisco came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Joe Ferguson initiated the scoring when he lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 4th of the season). Darrell Evans next to the plate and he drew a walk. Don Stanhouse then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch. Two outs later Don Kessinger came to the plate and drew a walk. Willie McCovey stepped into the box and doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Montreal had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Tom Griffin (2-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Gary Lavelle recorded the save, his 12th. Stanhouse (1-5) was hit with the loss. Game 3 The San Francisco Giants easily topped the Montreal Expos; the final score was 7 to 2.

Halicki (4-4) allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Steve Rogers (5-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 12 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. Game 4 Frank Tanana pitched 5 strong innings at Candlestick Park where the Montreal Expos beat the San Francisco Giants 4 to 1.
Montreal tallied 2 runs in the 2nd inning. That was all Tanana (7-5) needed. Montreal had 7 hits overall, while San Francisco had 4.
Steve Foucault gained credit for his 9th save. The loss was charged to Bob Knepper (4-2). The Montreal ball club’s record now stands at 27-26. With the loss, San Francisco has a record of 6-4 lately, 26-27 overall. |
