Robinson was unconscious out there. While Atlanta pitching was serving softballs up there for him to hit, the Atlanta fans were serving up some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 2nd inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 3rd inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 17th of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 9th inning. Pittsburgh banged out 14 on the night. It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Kison(9-4). Doyle Alexander(6-8) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 innings. 'I felt great out there tonight' Robinson said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing. The highlight belonged to Reuss who silenced the stadium when he stroked a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Atlanta to come away with the victory. The winning pitcher was Reuss(6-8) who allowed 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. The loss was charged to Max Leon(1-3). Pittsburgh scored big getting 7 runs off him in 4 innings.BOXSCORE: 1977 Pittsburgh Pirates At 1977 Atlanta Braves 6/22/1977 Pirates AB R H RBI AVG Braves AB R H RBI AVG R.Stennett 2B 4 1 0 0 .349 G.Matthews LF 4 0 0 0 .234 F.Taveras SS 3 1 1 0 .238 R.Mulliniks SS 4 1 1 0 .199 A.Oliver CF 4 0 1 2 .297 J.Burroughs RF 4 2 2 3 .281 D.Parker RF 4 0 1 0 .340 B.Bonnell CF 2 1 0 0 .245 B.Robinson 1B 3 0 0 0 .325 W.Montanez 1B 2 0 1 1 .299 R.Zisk LF 4 0 1 0 .308 B.Pocoroba C 2 0 0 0 .342 P.Garner 3B 3 0 0 0 .257 R.Gilbreath 2B 3 0 0 0 .230 E.Ott C 1 0 0 0 .284 J.Royster 3B 2 0 0 0 .184 B-O.Moreno PR 0 0 0 0 .273 A-A.Rodriguez 3B 1 0 0 0 .237 E-D.Dyer C 0 0 0 0 .286 F.Jenkins P 3 0 0 0 .000 J.Brown P 2 0 0 0 .037 D.Collins P 0 0 0 0 ---- C-W.Stargell PH 0 0 0 0 .236 D.Campbell P 0 0 0 0 .000 D-F.Patek PR 0 0 0 0 .143 K.Tekulve P 0 0 0 0 .000 -- -- -- --- -- -- -- --- Totals 28 2 4 2 Totals 27 4 4 4 A-Subbed Defensively (3B) For Royster In 8th Inning B-Pinch Ran For Ott In 8th Inning C-Pinch Hit For Brown In 8th Inning D-Pinch Ran For Stargell In 8th Inning E-Subbed Defensively (C ) For Moreno In 8th Inning Pirates......... 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 2 4 0 Braves.......... 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 2 - 4 4 1 Pirates (41-39) IP H R ER BB SO HR PC ERA SCORESHEET J.Brown 7 2 2 2 3 6 1 103 4.57 A1 C7 K.Tekulve LOSS(0-3) 1 2 2 2 0 1 1 18 4.50 C8 Totals 8 4 4 4 3 7 2 Braves (33-47) IP H R ER BB SO HR PC ERA SCORESHEET F.Jenkins 8 1/3 4 2 1 3 4 0 126 3.26 A1 D3 D.Collins 0 1/3 0 0 0 0 0 0 5 3.37 D4 D4 D.Campbell WIN(5-1) 0 1/3 0 0 0 1 1 0 4 2.43 D5 Totals 9 4 2 1 4 5 0 ATTENDANCE- 19,467 DATE- Wednesday, June 22nd 1977 TIME- Day T- 2:06 LEFT ON BASE- Pirates: 4 Braves: 2 DOUBLE PLAYS- Pirates: 1 Braves: 1 ERRORS- R.Mulliniks DOUBLES- A.Oliver(11th), W.Montanez(22nd) HOME RUNS- J.Burroughs-2(22nd) STOLEN BASES- R.Stennett-2(12th), F.Taveras(53rd), F.Patek(8th) CAUGHT STEALING- O.Moreno, F.Patek SACRIFICE HITS- F.Taveras WALKS- B.Robinson, E.Ott-2, W.Stargell, B.Bonnell, W.Montanez, B.Pocoroba STRIKE OUTS- R.Stennett, R.Zisk, P.Garner, J.Brown-2, G.Matthews, R.Mulliniks-2, B.Bonnell, W.Montanez, R.Gilbreath, F.Jenkins GIDP- B.Robinson, R.Gilbreath Right fielder Jeff Burroughs blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Atlanta Braves pulled out a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4 to 2 at Fulton Co.
