Jim Rooker delivered 9 solid innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates topped the St.
Louis Cardinals by a score of 5 to 1 at Busch Stadium.
Rooker(9-5) put on a good performance. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 5.07 to 4.74.
Pittsburgh totaled 8 on the night.
Jerry Koosman(10-8) took the loss. 'When Rooker is on like that it is a tough
game to play, no doubt about it,' Steve Dewing said. 'He always pitches well
against us.'

Richie Zisk had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Busch Stadium as the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7 to 3.
Pittsburgh took the lead off Eric Rasmussen in the first inning plating an
isolated run using 2 hits. Rennie Stennett lined a one-base hit. Frank
Taveras came to the plate and laid down a sacrifice bunt. Al Oliver then hit
a single scoring the run. For the game Pittsburgh out-hit St. Louis 13 to 5.
John Candelaria(11-6) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win.
Rasmussen(12-5) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 6 hits
in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Ted Simmons had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Busch Stadium where the St. Louis
Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 9 to 5.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Simmons. He doubled bringing in a run in the 1st inning, cracked
a two-run shot (his 16th of the season) in the 3rd inning, laced a base-knock
in the 5th inning and lined a one-base hit in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh was
out-hit by St. Louis, 17 hits to 6.
Bob Forsch(9-6) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Bruce Kison(10-6)
was the loser. He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs in 4 innings.
