After two were out Buddy Bell initiated the scoring spurt when he laced a one-base hit. Johnny Bench came next and he blasted a two-run home run (his 28th of the season). New York NL had 9 hits for the night. Dave Tomlin(5-4) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Tomlin got help from Rich Gossage who was credited with his 34th save.
