Subject: Mets take 3 of 4 at Wrigley

New York goes into the bottom of the 9th of game 4 with a 3-run lead and blows the sweep -- and does it again in the 11th.  This might come back to haunt us!

Left fielder Jay Johnstone had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field where
the New York NL Mets beat the Chicago NL Cubs by the score of 6 to 4.
 
New York NL took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs using 3
hits.  Johnstone kicked off the action when he stroked a base-hit.  Buddy
Bell next to the plate and he doubled.  Rick Reuschel then threw a wild pitch
resulting in a run.  Bill Fahey came up and he slapped a one-base hit scoring
the final run of the inning.  Rich Gossage earned the save with a perfect
ninth, his 33rd save. 
 
The win went to Nino Espinosa(14-7) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Reuschel(14-17) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 10 hits and no walks in 5
innings.

30,566 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field.  The New York NL Mets
topped the Chicago NL Cubs by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.
 
The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings.  New York NL came out
the victor in the 10th inning.  After two were out Buddy Bell initiated the
scoring spurt when he laced a one-base hit.  Johnny Bench came next and he
blasted a two-run home run (his 28th of the season).  New York NL had 9 hits
for the night. 
 
Dave Tomlin(5-4) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Tomlin
got help from Rich Gossage who was credited with his 34th save.  Bruce
Sutter(3-4) was charged with the loss in relief.

The amazing New York NL Mets nipped the hopeless Chicago NL Cubs in 11 innings
4 to 3 at Wrigley Field in a hard fought contest.
 
The score was tied at 3 after nine.  New York NL came out on top in the 11th
inning.  Buddy Bell ripping a solo home run (his 10th of the season).
Although they lost, Chicago NL did out-hit New York NL 9 to 6. 
 
The victory was credited to Skip Lockwood(6-2) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Al Hrabosky(5-3) was charged with the loss in relief.

Bill Buckner had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field where the Chicago NL
Cubs beat the New York NL Mets in 11 innings by the score of 7 to 6.
 
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Chicago NL won the
hard fought contest in the 11th inning.  Dave Rosello opened up the inning
nicely when he doubled.  George Mitterwald stepped up next and he singled.
Bert Campaneris then worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring a run.
After another out, Jerry Morales stepped up to the plate and he slapped a
one-base hit giving Chicago NL the victory as 48,332 happy fans celebrated
wildly.  Both teams ended up with 13 on the afternoon. 
 
The win was credited to Bo McLaughlin(5-4) who went 2 innings allowing 1 run.
Warren Brusstar(6-3) was the loser in relief.  He allowed 2 hits and no walks
in 2/3 of an inning.
