august 28

Bill Singer went 6 strong innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Los
Angeles Dodgers by the score of 4 to 2 at Candlestick Park.

Dave Heaverlo(6-2) was solid in relief, and he got credit for the win.  He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and no walks in 2 innings.  San
Francisco banged out 7 on the night.

Heaverlo got help from Gary Lavelle who earned his 25th save.  Terry
Forster(4-4) ended up with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 runs and 3
hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Ed Halicki tossed a fine 3 hitter and catcher Joe Ferguson touched them all
and had 2 RBI at Candlestick Park where the San Francisco Giants beat the Los
Angeles Dodgers 7 to 1.

Los Angeles was unable to recover after San Francisco went ahead in the bottom
of the 3rd inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits.  That was all the runs
Halicki(13-13) needed.  San Francisco managed 15 in their victory.

The loss was charged to Don Sutton(8-13).  He served up 3 homeruns in his 6
innings.

In a good matchup it was the Los Angeles Dodgers 8, the pitiful San Francisco
Giants 6 at Candlestick Park.

Tommy John(10-9) was credited with the win in a less than impressive
performance.  He gave up 6 runs, 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings and served
up 2 'big flies'.  Los Angeles managed 11 in their victory.
