Subject: **** results of Los Angeles @ Atlanta *****

AUGUST 3

First baseman Steve Garvey cracked 2 homeruns as the Los Angeles Dodgers
clobbered the outmatched Atlanta Braves, 14 to 2.

Garvey really lit it up for Los Angeles.  The Atlanta fans let him have it for
what he did to their boys.  He ripping a solo home run in the 3rd inning,
lashed a single in the 5th inning, hit a one-base hit in the 7th inning and
quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam (his 22nd of the season) in the
9th inning.  For the game Los Angeles out-hit Atlanta 14 to 8.

Burt Hooton(12-8) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Phil
Niekro(14-13) was charged with the loss.  He allowed 5 runs and 10 hits in 8
innings.

'I had good swings tonight,' Garvey said, 'Everything felt right'.

Atlanta Braves by a score of 14 to 5 at Fulton Co Stadium.

The Atlanta fans didn't appreciate the big day Garvey had.  He stroked a
base-hit in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, popped a two-run clout
over the fence (his 23rd of the season) in the 5th inning and banged out a
single scoring a run in the 8th inning.  Los Angeles dominated offensively as
they scored in 6 different innings.

The victory was credited to Rick Rhoden(5-12) who went 7 innings, allowing 5
runs. Doyle Alexander(6-13) took the loss.  He was touched for 5 homeruns in
his 7 innings of work.

blasted a two-run home run (his 27th of the season) in the 7th inning.
Atlanta had 12 hits for the night while Los Angeles had 7.

The victory went to Rick Wise(12-10) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2
