Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 3 hits. Dick McAuliffe led off and keyed the rally when he ripped a base-knock. Al Kaline came next and he doubled. Cash then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Joe Adcock stepped in and he drew a walk plating a run. Jim Northrup stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly bringing in another run. Bill Freehan continued the rally and delivered a single giving Detroit the victory and sending the 45,658 home-town fans home happy. Detroit had 15 hits for the night while New York AL had 8. Ron Kline(4-6) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. The loss was charged to Dooley Womack(4-1) in relief. Kline and Cash were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As Detroit's manager noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
