The score was tied at 5 after nine. Finally, Los Angeles pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Steve Sax delivered a base-hit. Terry Puhl stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Dusty Baker then lined a one-base hit scoring the run. Both teams ended up with 10 on the afternoon. The winning pitcher was Valenzuela(9-7) who allowed 5 runs for the game. Joe Sambito(1-3) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and no walks in 1 inning. Valenzuela was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
