JULY 6 48,462 fans were treated to a fine game at CANDLESTICK PARK as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The San Francisco Giants won by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5. The deciding run was scored by San Francisco in the bottom of the 8th. After an out was recorded, Jeffrey Leonard doubled. Darrell Evans followed and he slapped a base-hit scoring the run. San Francisco rapped out 9 hits for the night. Al Holland(7-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings and allowing no runs. Tom Niedenfuer(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 3 hits and no walks.
