In an oddity that it seems only Strat can produce each of the four games ended in a 3-0 score. By the fourth game and I figured whoever scored first would win 3-0. And I was right… In another oddity, only one of the games was a complete game shutout. Question for Bob: Do you use the Super Hal Bullpen? It felt like HAL was making a lot more bullpen moves than he usually does.
Game 1 In a game for the baseball purist, Scott Sanderson (12-3) and Frank Tanana (10-5) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Montreal Expos finally emerged victorious over San Francisco Giants, 3 to 0.
Montreal jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring one runner. After two outs Mike Schmidt drew a walk. Andre Dawson next to the plate and he doubled scoring the run. That was all the offense they were to need. The San Francisco batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.
Jeff Reardon earned the save, his 25th.
Game 2 Bob Knepper took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at CANDLESTICK PARK where the San Francisco Giants beat the Montreal Expos 3 to 0.
Knepper (13-5) put on a good performance. He allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk in 6 innings. The left-handed Knepper had his no-hit bid broken up by Ivan Dejesus who singled with two outs in the 6th inning. Montreal proved to be no trouble in the 9th.
Greg Minton got the save, his 25th. Vern Ruhle (12-6) ended up with the loss. He gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. The San Francisco ballclub's record now stands at 62-54. With the loss, the Montreal ballclub's record is 74-42.
Game 3 Steve Rogers struck out 10 batters at CANDLESTICK PARK where the amazing Montreal Expos beat the San Francisco Giants by the score of 3 to 0.
Rogers (13-5) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 5 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. Montreal had just 4 hits for the night.
Gary Lavelle (6-5) was the loser. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings. Rogers , when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
Game 4 Vida Blue had a strong outing as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Montreal Expos 3 to 0 at CANDLESTICK PARK .
Blue (7-9) looked very much in control throughout the day. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and no walks in 6 innings. San Francisco rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Blue got help from Greg Minton who earned his 26th save. Bill Gullickson (10-7) took the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings. |
