Shortstop Rick Burleson connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI at
CANDLESTICK PARK where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants
by the score of 13 to 8.

The San Francisco fans didn't appreciate the big day Burleson had.  He smashed
a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 6th of the season) in the 5th inning, singled
which plated a run in the 7th inning and banged out a single scoring a run in
the 9th inning.  Los Angeles kept the pressure on throughout the contest as
they scored in 6 different innings.

The winning pitcher was Jerry Reuss(12-8) who allowed 4 runs in 5 innings.
Fred Breining(8-7) absorbed the loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 runs and 4
hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Mike Scioscia had 4 hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers outscored the San
Francisco Giants 5 to 3.

Burt Hooton(15-6) gave Los Angeles a solid outing. He surrendered 8 hits and 1
walk in 6 and 1/3 innings.  Los Angeles finished with 12 hits while San
Francisco ended up with 9.

Hooton was helped out by Steve Howe who recorded his 22nd save.  Lynn
McGlothen(0-6) was charged with the loss.  He gave up 5 runs in 4 innings of
work.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Hooton, 'I got burned on
a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
