Chili Davis hits 3 home runs in game 3. Not much pitching to be found in this series. New manager attached.
Game 1 The Montreal Expos toppled the San Francisco Giants by an 8 to 4 score at Candlestick Park .
Mark Calvert (2-1) had a steady outing. He went 6 and 2/3 innings surrendering 7 hits and no walks. San Francisco had 12 hits in the game while Montreal had 9, but Montreal had the more timely hits.
Jeff Reardon was credited with his 20th save. Mike Krukow (7-9) was hit with the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 5 innings of work.
Game 2 Dan Schatzeder went 3 strong innings as the Montreal Expos beat the San Francisco Giants in 10 innings by a score of 8 to 6.
The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Finally, Montreal pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Harold Baines led off and he drew a walk. Two outs later Frank Williams came up and he uncorked a wild pitch. Tony Bernazard then drew a walk. Ozzie Virgil followed and he reached on an error. A balk was called. Montreal managed 10 hits in their victory.
Joe Hesketh (2-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Hesketh got help from Jeff Reardon who was credited with his 21st save. Williams (4-5) was the loser in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
The Montreal ballclub's record now stands at 47-46. With the loss San Francisco now has a record of 43-50.
Game 3 Chili Davis smacked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Candlestick Park as the San Francisco Giants beat the Montreal Expos 12 to 6.
Davis was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He doubled in the 1st inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 2nd inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 5th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 15th of the season) in the 8th inning. San Francisco and Montreal each finished the night with 12 hits.
David Palmer (4-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 5 runs. The losing pitcher was Bill Gullickson (5-8). He was touched for 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Davis said. 'We played well together as a team.'
Game 4 The Montreal Expos defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 9 to 6 at Candlestick Park .
Montreal erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Andre Dawson initiated the scoring spurt when he drew a walk. A balk was called. Spike Owen then drew a walk. Jim Wohlford came up and he doubled. Tim Raines stepped into the box and ripped a base-knock. Ron Gardenhire got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Mike Schmidt next to the plate and he was hit by a pitch. Montreal rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.
Bryn Smith (7-4) got the win allowing 6 runs in 7 innings. Jeff Reardon recorded the save, his 22nd. Frank Williams (4-6) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
