Subject: Reds @ Mets
The Soto-less Reds circle the drain with ever-increasing velocity.... Game 1: Sid Fernandez & Roger McDowell combined on a 4-hitter, but Sid walked in a pair of runs immediately after a bases-loading IW, and gave the Reds an unlikely 3-1 victory. Those two free passes would be our final breaks of the series. Game 2: Yet another bottom of the ninth defeat aside, today's outcome was built mainly around a walk to a non-hitting pitcher followed by a highly-unlikely split card that resulted in a home run by a highly-unlikely power hitter; Wally Backman's second gopher of the season sent the Reds to a 4-3 defeat. Cincy did a reasonably good job of generating offense against Doctor K (8 hits) but blew an early lead and subsequently wasted a game tying clutch hit by Dave Parker in order to put another tally in the Choke column. Game 3: Apparently the more hits we get, the worse we fare on the scoreboard. Cincy outhit the Mets 10-6 today but clutch hits (for us) were non-existent and the Reds folded up during the late innings again by the score of 5-3. The Reds donated this contest to the Mets during a surgical inning that required almost no effort on the part of the beneficiaries: 3 walks, 2 wild pitches, 1 error - and just one hit.
