Fred Whitfield homered as the Minnesota Twins outscored the San Francisco
Giants 5 to 3.
San Francisco was unable to recover after Minnesota went ahead in the bottom
of the 2nd inning scoring a single run. Whitfield lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' (his 19th of the season). Minnesota finished with 11 hits while
San Francisco ended up with 6.
The winning pitcher was Dave Boswell(6-2) who allowed no runs in 7 innings.
Juan Marichal(14-6) was charged with the loss. 'I just wanted to give my
team a chance to win.' said Boswell, 'I got burned on a couple of pitches.
But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
