Frank Howard lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI at D.C. Stadium
where the Washington Senators beat the New York AL Yankees by the score of 11
to 3.

The Washington fans enjoyed the offense provided by Howard.  He doubled in the
2nd inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 15th of the
season) in the 4th inning.  Washington ended up with 14 hits for the game
while New York AL had 7.

Wade Blasingame(11-8) allowed 3 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jim Bouton(3-8) was the loser.  He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 7 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.

Bobby Richardson had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Sam McDowell struck out12 batters
at D.C. Stadium as the New York AL Yankees beat the Washington Senators by
the count of 7 to 5.

Richardson enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He doubled in the 1st inning,
lined a one-base hit scoring two baserunners in the 2nd inning, delivered a
base-hit in the 6th inning and blasted a solo shot (his 10th of the season)
in the 8th inning.  New York AL banged out 12 on the afternoon.

McDowell(11-10) lasted until the end allowing 5 runs for the win. Dean
Chance(10-11) was charged with the loss.  McDowell didn't realize how many
strikeouts he was racking up.  When told he had 12 he was obviously
surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't
think I had K'd that many.  Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'
