Braves offense was mainly ballpark home runs while the Padres managed I believe just 1 unsuccessful bp chance. Padres opposition are now 70-109 on bp homer chances on the year while the Padres are just 24-53. game 1: Dennis Rasmussen was a 1 man wrecking crew in this one. He went the distance and allowed 8 hits with no walks and just 1 run on a bp homer. He also had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs at the plate. He was one of 5 Padres hitters with 2 hits and they racked up 14 total against 7 Braves pitchers. This one was never close with the Padres getting 2 in the first and 2nd and they went on to win 9-1. game 2: Santiago hit a 2 run homer in the 2nd and Maas countered with a bp homer in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. The Braves used 3 singles in the 6th to score their first run of the series that wasn't via a bp homer. Padres got a lead off double in the 9th and moved him to third on a sac bunt but couldn't bring him in.  In the 10th, Nixon led off with a single and stole second but was then gunned trying to steal 3rd base. Braves got the winner in the 11th with 1b,1b, error, 1b (triple 1-3 flyout) to win 3-2. The teams combined for 1 walk (to Glavine) and 29 strikeouts (14 for SD pitchers and 15 for Atlanta). game 3: Andy Benes had no chance in this one as he allowed 3 bp homers. This one was so bad that we couldn't throw out a 1-3 stolen base attempt (having a bad throw on top of the "success" was just salt in the wound). After a lead offhomer in the bottom of the 4th the Braves line was 4 runs, 3 hits and 2 bp homers. Santiago hit another hr off his card for the Padres. Braves only out hit the Padres 9-8 but the longball made the difference as the Braves won 7-4. game 4: Braves jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first on...surprise..... a 2 run bp homer.  Hurst settle down from there and avoided any other bp homer chances. Gerald Clark's 3 run homer off his card capped a 4 run 5th for the Padres. The Braves got 1 in the 6th but that was it as Maddux closed out the 4-3 win for Hurst. After coming in to the series 24-255, Padres pitchers went 4-11 in the series with Benes the only starter not to get a hit.
