Sox sweep behind phenomenal starting pitching, especially the way this season has gone league wide. 3 Boston starters combined to go 22 innings and allow just 5 hits. Texas did not get their first hit in any game until 1 out in the 6th inning. Too bad the bullpen couldn't match those numbers.
game 1: Valentin had a sac fly in the 4th and Lind an rbi double in the 5th and that would be more than enough for Aaron Sele, who continued a strong start to the season. Although wild (5 walks), Sele didn't allow a hit until 1 out in the 6th, and that was followed by a dp grounder. In the 7th, Greer reached hit for a no-doubt homer (split of 1) but that was the end of the scoring. Boston won 2-1 with Henke getting the save.
Game 2: Boston used single,single, sac fly to start the game and jump to the early lead. Eusebio had an rbi single and Vaughn a 2 run homer in the 5th. Sid Fernandez tossed 6 innings of no-hit ball before allowing hits to the first 2 batters he faced in the 7th. Palmer followed with a sac fly to get Texas on the board. Chris (is my card really a 13/14) Howard came on for the 8th. A 3 base error, 2 singles and a sac fly made it a 4-3 game. Boston got one of those back in the 9th as Mouton singled, stole second, went to third on a Lind bunt and scored on a sac fly. An Eusebio error was followed by a double in the 9th and it was 5-4 before Henke managed to get out of the rest of the inning for his 2nd save of the series.
Game 3: Joe Hesketh continues to rebound from his disasterous opening start. He allowed his only hit with 2 outs in the 8th inning (he only walked 1 as well). Naehring hit a 2 run homer in the 2nd, Whitmore had an rbi double in the 5th and a wild pitch brought home another run in the 8th. After Cooper's 2 run homer in the 9th made it a 6-0 game, Hesketh was lifted for recently recalled Stan Belinda. Hal wasted no time in figuring out Hesketh was gone. 6 of the 7 batters rolled on their owncard and Texas made a late rally but fell short 6-3.
