Subject: Montreal at San Francisco Week 16

I think it's week 16...anyway, a very competitive, fun series to play.
McCovey hit so many homeruns I actually considered walking him with no one
on base...Expos and Giants split four games.

Believe it or not, NO Montreal manager this week.

Game 1
In a dramatic ending the very talented Montreal Expos staged a comeback and
held on to win over the San Francisco Giants by the count of 7 to
5.

Montreal took the lead for good in the 7th inning as they scored 3 runs on 4
base hits. The highlight belonged to John Bateman who helped quiet the
crowd
when he doubled which was good for two runs. Montreal rapped out 9 hits for
the night.

Claude Raymond(6-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning.
Clyde
Wright(17-2) was tagged with the loss. He gave up only 4 hits and no walks
in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Game 2
In a tight game it was the very talented Montreal Expos 10, the San
Francisco
Giants 8 in 12 innings at Candlestick Park.

The score was knotted at 8 after nine innings. Montreal won the game in the
12th inning. Coco Laboy started the scoring when he lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' (his 2nd of the season). John Bateman came to the plate and
smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 4th of the season). Montreal had a
total of 13 hits for the game.

Howie Reed(5-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no
runs. Reed got help from Barry Lersch who earned his 1st save. Moe
Drabowsky(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief.

Game 3
Center fielder Willie Mays slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at Candlestick
Park
as the San Francisco Giants beat the Montreal Expos in 10 innings 3 to
2.

The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. San Francisco won it
in
the 10th inning. After two were out Bobby Bonds drew a walk. Billy
Grabarkewitz was next and he lined a base-hit. Mays then delivered a single
resulting in an exciting win for San Francisco and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Both teams finished the game with 10
hits.

The victory was credited to Ron Willis(5-7) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Mike Marshall(6-2) absorbed the loss in relief.

Game 4
In a dramatic ending at Candlestick Park the San Francisco Giants won in
their
last at-bat beating the Montreal Expos by the count of 6 to 5.

The game was decided in the 9th inning. Bobby Bonds delivered a single.
Raul
Camacho then called for a steal which was successful. Billy Grabarkewitz
then drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Willie McCovey stepped up to
the plate and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. After another
out, Dick Dietz came to the plate and lined a base-hit giving San Francisco
the victory as 17,202 happy fans celebrated wildly. San Francisco had a
total of 8 hits for the game.

Ron Willis(6-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Claude
Raymond(6-4) was the loser in relief. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks in 1
and
1/3 innings.
