The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Pittsburgh won the game in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Rennie Stennett opened up the rally as he drew a walk. Al Oliver followed and he doubled. Richie Zisk then slapped a single plating two runs. A balk was called. One out later, Willie Stargell came to the plate and drew a walk. Art Howe added to the outburst and stroked a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. Pittsburgh finished with 10 hits while New York NL ended up with 6.
