Subject: Expos at Dodgers Week 5
Game
1 48,522 fans watched
an exciting game at Dodger Stadium. The Los Angeles Dodgers topped the
Montreal Expos by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. Los Angeles jumped
out to the early lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base
hits. The big moment was provided by Willie Crawford who made the crowd
happy when he doubled bringing in two base runners. Montreal had
a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Andy Messersmith
(5-3) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Grant Jackson earned the
save, his 3rd. Steve Rogers (4-2) suffered the loss. He allowed
8 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. Despite losing Steve
Bivens was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one.
Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a
dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.' Game
2 The Los Angeles
Dodgers nipped the Montreal Expos 6 to 5 at Dodger Stadium in a hard fought
contest. In the 2nd inning
Los Angeles scored 3 runs. The highlight belonged to Davey Lopes who
electrified Dodger Stadium when he clubbed a three-run home run (his 1st of
the season). Montreal had a chance in the 9th but they came
up short. The win went to Don
Sutton (5-1) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Sutton was helped out by Dick
Drago who recorded his 2nd save. Larry Christenson (2-2) took the
loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7 hits and
1 walk. Despite losing Steve
Bivens was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one.
Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a
dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.' It's unfortunate
that Steve Bivens doesn't have anything original to say! Game
3 Lee Lacy cracked a
homer and had 3 RBI at Dodger Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the
Montreal Expos in 12 innings 9 to 8. The score was
knotted at 6 after nine innings. Los Angeles won the game in the 12th
inning. Tony Muser drew a walk. After an out was recorded,
Dale Murray stepped up to the plate and he fired a sharp breaking ball
that appeared to cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by him and
was ruled a passed ball. Jim Wynn then stroked a single. One out
later, Roger Metzger stepped up to the plate and he laced a one-base hit
giving Los Angeles the victory and sending the 49,385 home-town fans home
happy. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 6
times. Mickey Scott (1-0)
got the win allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. Murray (1-2) took the loss in
relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in
his 1 inning of work. |
