May 8 At Busch Stadium, the St. Louis fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Jerry Koosman(1-4) finally bested his Los Angeles opposite, Rick Rhoden(2-3), by the score of 1 to 0. Koosman looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings reducing his ERA from 4.50 to 3.72. St. Louis managed only 4 on the night. Mike Garman recorded his 1st save. Rhoden took the loss. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
