Subject: results of Los Angeles visiting St Louis

May 8

At Busch Stadium, the St. Louis fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Jerry
Koosman(1-4) finally bested his Los Angeles opposite, Rick Rhoden(2-3), by
the score of 1 to 0.

Koosman looked very much in control throughout the night.  He didn't allow
much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings reducing his ERA from 4.50
to 3.72.  St. Louis managed only 4 on the night.

Mike Garman recorded his 1st save.  Rhoden took the loss.  He was the victim
of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
St. Louis Cardinals rallied to top Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 4 to
3.

St. Louis came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2
runs on 2 hits.  Ed Kranepool started the inning off right when he slapped a
base-hit.  Harper stole second with some aggressive base running.  Ken Reitz
then drew a walk.  Cesar Tovar followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Sandy Alomar stepped into the box and doubled making St. Louis the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration.  Despite losing, Los Angeles
out-hit St. Louis 12 to 7.

Jim Crawford(2-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 1 inning. Dick Drago(1-2)
was hit with the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 1/3 of an
inning.
