june 23 One run was the difference at Three Rivers Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2 to 1. Los Angeles won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Roger Metzger lined a single. After an out was recorded, Davey Lopes came up and he doubled. Johnny Oates then doubled scoring the run. Pittsburgh went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th. Don Sutton(14-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Dick Drago got the save, his 7th. The loss was charged to Bob Moose(2-3) in relief. Pittsburgh claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. The key at-bat was by Dave Parker who brought the crowd to their feet when he blasted a two-run home run (his 12th of the season). Pittsburgh out-hit Los Angeles for the game, 9 hits to 6. Ken Brett(6-4) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Brett got help from Dave Giusti who earned his 16th save. Marty Pattin(2-6) was the loser.
