Andy Etchebarren smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Shea Stadium where the
Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York NL Mets 5 to 0.

Etchebarren was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors.  He belted a three-run homer
in the 2nd inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 4th of the season)
in the 6th inning.  Los Angeles rapped out 8 hits for the night.

Don Sutton(17-1) got the win allowing no runs in 7 innings. Mickey
Lolich(6-11) was the loser.  He pitched 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 5
walks.

Johnny Bench blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI at Shea Stadium where the New
York NL Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 4 to 2.

New York NL brought 2 runs across the plate in the 5th inning.  The key at-bat
was by Jay Johnstone who made the New York NL fans a happy lot when he
cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 6th of the season).  New York
NL had only 6 hits for the afternoon.

Mike Caldwell(7-7) allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Bob
Apodaca earned the save, his 17th.  The losing pitcher was Marty Pattin(2-7).

'He gutted it out' Jon Fellows said of Caldwell.  'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'
