Subject: Cubs take 3 of 4 from Mets at Wrigley

Game 1: Andy Messersmith and two relievers whitewash the Mets 4-0 as Pat Zachry gets no support from either the offense or the bullpen.

Game 2: Steve Carlton gets touched for two home runs (Kingman-no surprise and Foli-big surprise) and the Mets are held scoreless again in a 3-0 loss.

Game 3: The Mets finally get a run in the 1st and Jon Matlack promptly surrenders back-to-back 2-out homers to Monday and Madlock in the bottom of the frame.  The Mets fought back to take the lead and the M&M boys struck again with 2 more dingers off Matlack in the 8th – 6-5 Cubs.

Game 4: The Mets stave off the sweep with a see-saw 7-6 win.  Bruce Boisclair drives in 4.

In a thriller the New York NL Mets staged a dramatic comeback then held on to
win over the Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 7 to 6 at Wrigley Field.

New York NL had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2
runs.  Bud Harrelson opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk.  Jerry
Remy stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  John Milner
then drew a walk.  Bruce Boisclair came up and he banged out a single which
scored a run.  Boisclair took second on the throw.  Keith Hernandez stepped
into the box and hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.  New
York NL ended up with 10 hits for the game while Chicago NL had 7.

Bob Apodaca(1-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Apodaca got
help from Skip Lockwood who was credited with his 2nd save.  Bruce
Sutter(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief.

'Thankfully we got ourselves a win', Apodaca said.  'It's great to be back on
the winning side of things.'
